Bio/Press Release

REVOLUTION 89: ROCK ‘N’ ROLL TRIO RELEASES DEBUT "THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS" 2008 SDMA Nominee for "Best New Group" produced by Phil Solem of The Rembrandts SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Less than a year old, Revolution 89, has managed to make a splash from just about the moment they left the rehearsal studio. Built around the drumming of Haley Allen, the group’s explosive brand of rock ‘n’ roll has attracted notice throughout the Southland. The key is that the trio, which also features Chris Leyva (guitar) and Jules Margo (bass) is always a terrific live proposition; their debut performance was at Los Angeles legendary Viper Room, with headline slots at San Diego’s House of Blues and Beauty Bar amongst their other credits. Now come’s the release of their debut E.P, "The Pursuit of Happiness." Produced at Miniature Studios in Minnesota by Phil Solem (of pop hit-makers The Rembrandts), the disc captures the trio’s intense pop-edged sound, though for the full force effect, a visit stage-side is highly recommended. The album scored a nomination at the recent 2008 San Diego Music Awards in the category of "Best New Group." Topping what has been a productive few months, Leyva also earned a nomination this year, for "Best Local recording. Revolution 89 is yet another Myspace success story. The bond amongst the musicians was strong from the start - meeting online and hitting the stage for the first time all took place within the space of a few weeks. 20 year-old Allen, a San Diego native, has a confidence that belies her young age. She’s been a drummer most of her life. "It’s almost a cliché, but this really is what I was meant to do," she said. "I feel lucky that it comes naturally to me. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else." She’s studied under drumming notables Morgan Young and Brian "Nucci" Cantrell, with Kevin Figg, of Perry Farrell fronted Satellite Party and Extreme, an early mentor. A love of blues and classic rock is the foundation for her sound, however, she settled on the trio format for pragmatic reasons. "It’s easier to deal with less people," she joked. "It’s a "classic" band set up," added Leyva. "Think of all the "classic" groups through out the rock era that have been three piece combo’s. In such situations each musician has to really excel at their craft to fill out the sound and melody. That’s what we’re striving for," he remarked. Anyone who needs a shot of uncompromising rock ‘n’ roll should make a point of checking out the band at this show or at a club near you. "I’m not interested in making it in the "MTV" sense," confirms Allen. "Revolution 89 is about something more than that," she mused. "This is music from the heart."
